The preventive impact of vermicompost on bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) salinity resistance: An evaluation

This work aims to identify the impacts of vermicompost leachate (VCL) toward its salt resistance stress in plants. Young Capsicum annuum L seedlings were subjected salinity (160 mM NaCl added a nutrient solution) over course seven days during or following adding 7 mL L−1 VCL. The exposure resulted notable decrease dry and fresh leaf weights, K+ concentrations, water content; whereas root Na+ concentrations remarkably increased. Furthermore, yielded reduced instantaneous transpiration, net photosynthesis, maximum PSII photochemistry efficiency, stomatal conductance (gs) state photochemical quenching, dark adaptation, efficiency (ΦPSII). Moreover, VCL application led an increase weight gs, while osmotic potential remained consistent regardless proline content seen salt-treated Meanwhile, it minimized concentration leaves by 21.4%, increased roots 16.9%. Accordingly, pre-treatment regiment with ensuing higher compared concomitant due recording highest adjustment. sugar (9.3 µmol g−1 FW) level (51 FW).
